Art Explorations

Hello my name is Savannah Fleming, I am twenty-one going to be twenty-two on the thirtieth of this month. I am a freshman at UAF, this is my second semester. I am majoring in psychology and leaning towards art for my minor. I was born in Utah where my mothers side of the family are but raised here in Fairbanks for most of my life where my fathers side is. I've always been into outdoor activities, while I'm not the sports type I love to snow machine, snowboard, and other summer activities like hiking, camping, watersports, and many others. Being outside is my preferred place as I feel more myself, filled with happiness and I think clearer. Reading, painting, and video games are my main hobbies. I have three cats that are my total world! I am huge animal lover especially when it comes to cats. I'm very excited for this class and what I will learn from it!

This is a piece I find very beautiful it is called "A Limier Briquet" by Rosa Bonheur.

Ever since I was little I've been drawn to creating in all forms. Starting at least from elementary school I can vividly remember gravitating towards a sketch book. It was not until my freshman year of high school that I truly found my favorite medium. It started by watching reruns of Bob Ross's "The Joy of Painting" series, I began to believe that I could paint, too. I did just that by painting landscapes using acrylic paint, a passion that has continued to grow ever since. I would consider myself an amateur as my skills still have plenty of room for improvement. I genuinely enjoy learning the history of art and the deeper meaning behind great works. Although I've never visited an art museum yet, I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to explore as many as possible in my future!

  1. Go to the Museum of the North. The art upstairs is really wonderful.

  2. Hi! I also do acrylic painting and love being outside; it IS easier to think clearly when you are outside! I checked out Jeff Hamada’s blog. It’s so neat to see the variety of art and resources offered to artists around the world. I also looked into Rosa Bonheur’s history, she's inspiring. She was successful and quite progressive during her time. I like how she captures the shadows and nighttime scenery in her painting, Moonlight Battle.
